Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
“An education capable of saving humanity is no small undertaking; it involves the spiritual development of man, the enhancement of his value as an individual, and the preparation of young people to understand the times in which they live.”
~Dr. Maria Montessori
Arlington Montessori House practices the international mission founded by Dr. Maria Montessori to revolutionize early childhood education through cultivating environments of peace. The Montessori curriculum provides children concrete, hands on, experiential learning. This equitable approach extends beyond the classroom curriculum and shapes our work and communication with one another, striving for equity among our community as a whole.
“Peace is not the absence of war, but the presence of justice, law, and order…” ~ Albert Einstein
As an AMI Recognized school, we actively engage our staff and community in ABAR training, discussion, and advocacy. We stand with AMI-USA in denouncing racism and committing to work for meaningful change:
“…AMI/USA denounces racism and stands beside all of those who work on behalf of social justice. We recommit to our mission and work to affect meaningful change — to unpack hierarchy, privilege, bias, and structures that benefit certain communities and disadvantage others through our programs and services. We stand unyielding in our commitment to critically interrogate systemic racism and unconscious bias in our organization and in our community. We recognize we have much work to do…”
